On being asked to write about the 1969 Apollo Moon Landings – which would have made my mother 14 at the time, she very fondly recalled cutting a newspaper article about the event and submitting that as her assignment. She thought this was pretty funny, and on my hearing of – I thought it was pretty funny, too.

My mother used to engage me about my hobbies and interests. One of these include history; she was very fond of the story of Napoleon, and particularly of his coronation. There is some debate on the interpretation of this, but she made it a point to characterize it as him crowning himself emperor, and used to talk about his exiles - both of them, quite a bit. I love that she found that story so engaging, hah. She also knew of Napoleon III and found Bismarck's antics in the process of German unification hilarious, which, I'm happy that she listened to my nonsense to a degree to where she understood it all well enough to find humor in it, haha.
